What kind of drain should I use for my lavatory faucet?

There are two basic drain types: drains with stoppers, and drains with grid strainers, and no stoppers. If your lavatory sink does not have an overflow, then you should not use a drain with a stopper. It is possible for you to over-fill a sink without overflow when you stop up the drain. Gerber offers drains with grid strainers for sinks without overflow drainage. These are provided with our Vessel Filler faucets as an accessory.

Drains with overflow systems can use either a drain with stopper or a drain with a grid strainer (with overflow holes in the casting). You can operate the stopper with a lift rod (this kind of drain is called a "pop up drain", or you can use our simple-to-install "touch down" drain, which only requires pressure on the stopper to seal or open. Many Gerber models are supplied with the touchdown drain as it is easier to install and is simple to operate, and maintain.
