How Do I Install Or Replace A Handle For A 1/2" Thermostatic Cartridge? (Handle Version 2)

This article will explain how to remove and install the handle with the set screw for the 1/2" Thermostatic cartridge.

To remove and install the handle for the 1/2" Thermostatic cartridge, you will need to:

  1. Locate and remove the set screw
  2. Remove the handle
  3. Install the handle

Step 1 - Locate and remove the set screw

a - The opening for the set screw is covered by a black rubber cap. Remove this cap with your fingers.

b - With the rubber cap removed, you should now have access to the set screw. Insert the hex wrench into the opening so that it engages the screw. Turn counter-clockwise a quarter turn to loosen the set screw.

Step 2 - Remove the handle

a - Once the set screw is loosened, pull the handle away from the faucet body. The handle should come off easily.

b - If you are installing a new handle and wish to re-use the set screw from the previous handle, use the hex wrench to unscrew the screw until it is completely removed.

 

Step 3 - Install the handle

a - If you are installing a new handle, install the set screw on the new handle. To do so, place the set screw on the tip of the hex wrench. Use the hex wrench to install the set screw on the new handle.

 

If you are installing a new handle, install the set screw on the new handle. To do so, place the set screw on the tip of the hex wrench. Use the hex wrench to install the set screw on the new handle.

 

b - Install the handle onto the faucet. It should slide easily onto the cartridge stem.

 

c - Use the hex wrench to tighten the set screw.
