To install a ceramic disc cartridge, you must:
- Remove the old cartridge.
- Install the new cartridge.
- Test for leaks.
Please Note: Before doing any work on your faucet, please shut off the water supply for the faucet.
Once the water is turned off, you are ready to begin.
Step 1 – Remove the old cartridge
-
Remove the handle
- To remove the cartridge, use the sleeve removal tool.
- To do so, slide the sleeve removal tool onto the cartridge assembly.
- Use a pair of adjustable pliers to turn the sleeve removal tool counter-clockwise.
- Remove the fixed washer by pulling it with your fingers.
- Using a pair of adjustable pliers, hold the cartridge and pull it up until it is completely removed from the faucet body.
Step 2 – Install the new cartridge
- Locate the groove in the plastic cartridge body. With the groove facing up, insert the cartridge into the valve body
- Install the fixed washer on the new cartridge. The opening on the fixed washer is round on the inside bottom, flat on the inside left and right, and has a small notch on the inside top. It can only fit onto the cartridge 1 way. Line the small notch up with the matching groove that runs along the top of the cartridge.
- Use the sleeve removal tool to re-install the sleeve. To avoid over-tightening the sleeve, hand tighten the sleeve and then use the adjustable pliers to apply a quarter turn. Approximately 10-14 lbs of torque are required to properly install the sleeve.
Step 3 – Test for leaks
- Once all of the parts are re-installed, turn on the water supply for the faucet and let the water run for approximately 10 minutes. If you notice that water is leaking from the cartridge, tighten the sleeve and test again.
NOTE: When reinstalling the limit stop and the handle assembly, align the gun sight on the limit stop with the notch on the valve cartridge stem
